Giving Thanks According to the New Testament

Some Observations and Implications

Selected Scriptures

1. Even Jesus gave thanks to God (John 6:11, 23 [6:1-15]) 

2. Jesus gave thanks to God amid much sorrow (Luke 22:17, 19 [22:7-23])

3. Giving thanks to God is more a result of faith than being shown mercy (Luke 17:11-19) 

4. Giving thanks to God is more an expression of humility than simply saying ‘thank you’ (Luke 18:9-14) 

5. Giving thanks to God is a part of what it means to be human (Romans 1:21 [1:18-25])

6. Giving thanks to God is a part of what makes our actions honorable (Romans 14:6 [14:1-9; 1 Timothy 4:3, 4])
