What a relevant challenge brought to us on Sunday!  God’s hesed is covenantal, relational, and faithful.  We are to demonstrate hesed in like manner as our Heavenly Father.  God’s hesed is our motivation for obedience, praise, and love.  The direct application (challenge) came in the reading of the Anchor Baptist Church Member Covenant.  Our demonstration of “steadfast loyal lovingkindness” takes place within the trusting interpersonal relationships of our local church family.

We are covenantally obligated one to another and to biblical commands for living.  And not just because of our ABC member’s covenant, but because we are united in one body through the new covenant in the blood of Christ.  How do I treat those in this relationship?  How am I treated by those in this relationship?  With compassion and affection?  With selfishness and manipulation? 

Pray for me, and will pray for you, that I will not receive the grace of God in vain, but will offer up my very self as a living sacrifice in worship to God. And that I will demonstrate hesed to you as a covenanted member of the Body of Christ as a part of my spiritual worship of the LORD.
