The Holy Spirit’s focus is Jesus, so must ours be!

The work of the Spirit, in all its forms and facets, is to point us to Jesus.  The Holy Spirit’s desire is not for himself, but for the exaltation of Christ; in our individual lives, in the Church, in the world, in all eternity.

It is so easy for us to get distracted and caught up with the means and not the end, the shadow and not the substance, the gift and not the giver, and so on.  There has seemingly always been a version of getting distracted and “caught up” with the Holy Spirit in an unbiblical/unfaithful way within the Church.  The temptation is real, but there is no temptation which we are unable to withstand.

Whether you would assess that you have overemphasized, underemphasized, or mistakenly emphasized the Holy Spirit in your relationship of faith, I encourage you to actually take the time to make the assessment.  And use what God’s Word actually teaches about the Spirit as your tool of assessment.

Read, meditate, pray, talk with others, and humbly receive whatever admonition the LORD brings.  And then be encouraged and encourage others with the truth!
