"But the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love."

~ Psalm 147:11

Our LORD is great and abundant in power (v.5).  His understanding is beyond measure (v.5).  Mine is not.  I have 5 kids and it seems like I can’t call them by the right name at least half the time.  If you are a parent, you are probably with me in this!

In almost passing fashion, this psalmist examples God’s greatness by saying, that as Creator God not only determines the number of the stars, but has given to each of them a name, and he knows and remembers each of them by name (v.4).  Unlike me, God doesn’t have to stumble and fumble through a rolodex of names when he considers a specific star that he has created.

I don’t know if you consider yourself to be greater or lesser than one of the stars, but as your Creator, God has created you as greater than the stars and he also knows YOU by name.  As your Heavenly Father, he calls you by name.  And he calls you to come to him through his Son Jesus Christ.

What an amazing thought!  For this, it is good and pleasant and fitting to sing praises to our God (v.1)!
