"Blessed is the man..."
~ Psalm 1:1a
This Psalm is likely familiar to many and perhaps beloved by many…and rightly so. Not only is this psalm a proper and fitting introduction to the book of the psalms, but it is fitting and proper in setting the stage to all of God’s Word.
It matters how and where we walk and stand and sit (v.1). It matters who we spend our time with. It matters what we give our time and attention to. It matters because these things will determine whether we prosper or perish (v.3,6).
The Word of God must be our delight (v.2). We must drink it in like a tree by steams of water (v.3). By it we must come to know the God of the Word and receive righteousness through his Son Jesus Christ. Without it we will perish in the day of judgment.
Delight in and meditate on the Word of God as you read Psalm 1. Further reflect on the Word of God and look to additional passages of Jeremiah 17:7-8, Nahum 1:6-7, Ezekiel 47:12, Revelation 22:2 and Jude 11-13. In it you will be blessed (v.1).
