"They have almost made an end of me on earth,..."

~ Psalm 119:87a

“My soul longs for your salvation…”  “My eyes long for your promise…”

“All your commandments are sure (long lasting)…”  “In your steadfast (long suffering) love give me life…”

God’s promises are found/realized in his commandments and his salvation is found/realized in his love.  Our lives are filled with longings.  God has the perfect and all-sufficient match for each and every one of our longings!  Our fallen nature leads us to seek fulfillment and satisfaction in all manner of sources other than God.  Although we may deceive ourselves into thinking that these sources match our longings for a time, they all will always fail to truly satisfy or meet our needs.  Only God is ever faithful (2 Tim. 2:13), ever true (1 John 5:20), never failing (Phil. 4:19).  He will not leave us nor forsake us (Deut. 31:6,8).  His arm is not too short (Is. 59:1).

It is not wrong to long; we are in fact mere creatures.  But we must long for the right things and take our longings to the right Provider.  Do you believe that God can truly, fully, perfectly fulfill your longings?  Do you know him intimately enough to trust him to do so?  You can and He will!
