"Your righteousness is righteous forever,"

~ Psalm 119:142a

What a marvel of the righteousness of God from this section of Psalm 119!

God himself, at LORD, is righteous (v.137).  That which comes from him, what he establishes as rules and testimonies, is righteous (v.137-138).  The way in which he appoints and establishes is righteous (v.138).  All of his inherent righteousness and that which is righteous as derivative from him is righteous forever (v.142, 144).  And as if that were not enough, he is faithful and does everything “in all faithfulness” (v.138).

God’s promises never fail.  They have endured and withstood all manner of test and trial (v.140).  His Word is forever true.  We must love (v.140) never forget (v.141), delight in (v.143), and seek understanding from (v.144) God’s Word.

What a marvel of who we are compared to God from this section of Psalm 119!

We are servants (v.140), who have enemies (v.139).  We are small and despised (v.141).  We are pursued by trouble and anguish (v.143), lacking in understanding (v.144), and facing death (v.144).

If I were to have penned verse 139, I probably would have said, “My zeal consumes me, because my children forget my words!”  How sad and pitiful the condition of my heart…  I was in desperate need of the reminders (rebuke and correction) of this section of Psalm 119.  I hope you too are able to look into the mirror of God’s Word, see the condition of your heart, and walk away not forgetting, but being transformed.
