"Answer me quickly, O LORD! My spirit fails! Hide not your face from me, lest I be like those who go down to the pit."

~ Psalm 143:7

Do you remember God’s faithfulness, righteousness and love from the days of old?  Do you meditate on all that he has done?  Do you ponder the work of his hands?  Does your soul thirst for the LORD like a parched land thirsts for the rain? (v.1,5-6)

Our God is trustworthy(v.8)  and merciful (v.1).  He is righteous and faithful in steadfast love (v. 1,8,11-12).  If we flee to him for refuge (v.9), he will teach us to do his will (v.10) and make known to us the way in which we should go (v.8).  And he does so for his name’s sake (v.11).

In the midst of present troubles, the psalmist (David) both looks to the past (God’s unfailing record) and keeps an eschatological perspective (God’s guaranteed future).  Living now on the foundation of what God has already done and in light of what he WILL do in the future.  All of this is found for us in Christ Jesus and he is where our hope rests.

Lift up your soul to the LORD (v.8) as you read Psalm 143.
