Congratulations: you are weird. And so am I. Of course this is nothing new; Paul and Peter both refer to us as a “peculiar people” (in the Authorized Version).
Usually, we have a tendency to not want to stand out from others. I personally would rather blend in just a little so that I will be accepted. However, in the case of holiness, it is definitely better to be part of the ‘weirdness’.
God plucked you out of those condemned to eternal destruction, set you apart, and repurposed you. In essence, God made you holy. You are set apart. That is your position. However, practically you are still not holy. That is the most wonderful and challenging process one can hope to be apart of. God calls us to be holy as He is holy. That task can sound daunting, but do not be afraid! God planned ahead of time (see Eph. 2:10). He already has good work that you are privileged to be a part of.
God is busy at work in the process of making you holy, and this holiness touches every aspect of your life. So tomorrow as you are going into work, remember that your purpose for being at work is both the same and completely different from everyone else’s purpose for being at work. Incredibly, God has good works for you to do for His glory and for your furtherance in the process of being holy. As you raise your children, as you obey your parents, as you meet with friends, as you go shopping, etc. don’t forget that you are a repurposed (and weird) vessel with a mission. And you are not alone!
