"Who is this King of glory?"

~ Psalm 24:8a

Not specifically a “Christmas Psalm”, nonetheless a very fitting psalm for Christmas Day.  This psalm of David acknowledges the LORD as Creator-Owner of all the earth (v.1-2)…establishes the holy transcendence of God (v.3-4)…declares the blessing and righteousness of God’s salvation (v.5-6)…and directs us to see and receive the King of Glory (v.7-10).

“Joy to the world, the Lord is come!  Let earth receive her King!”  This King is both Lord and Savior.  He is the King of Glory.  He is the Lord strong and mighty.  He is the Lord mighty in battle.  As King of all the universe, he is the LORD of Hosts.

Have you received the King of Glory for yourself?  Jesus Christ, God Incarnate, came to seek and save and be received by sinners.  You and I are sinners…that means he came for you and me.  The Son of God took on human flesh for the express purpose of giving his life as the ransom payment for the sin debt of the world.  There is nothing that any person can do to make themselves right before God, except fully placing their faith in Christ and his work on the Cross.

The manger has no meaning without the Cross.  The Cross has no meaning without the Empty Grave.  The Empty Grave has no meaning if you do not receive the free gift of salvation offered by the King of Glory who left that grave, who now sits at the Right Hand of the Father and who is coming back again.

This is the gospel message.  Rejoice anew in your salvation if you are already a believer!  Rejoice like you never have before, if today is the day of your salvation!
