"Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly."

~ Psalm 85:8

 

This is another psalm written by the Sons of Korah; this time acknowledging the favor, restoration, forgiveness, atonement (covering) and mercy of God for his people (v.1-3).  The ‘scene’ quickly changes in verses 4-7, with a plea to “restore us again” (favor), to “put away your indignation” (mercy), to “revive us again” (life and love in salvation).  It appears (and we know from the history recorded in our Bibles) that these people have turned their backs on God and given themselves over to folly once again.

So what now?  Is that the end of the matter?  No!  It is sure that salvation is near for those who fear the LORD…for those who confess, repent and seek him in humility; all to the glory of God (v.9) 

How is this accomplished?  And what does it produce?  God accomplishes such a certain salvation in his Son Jesus Christ.  We see a description of him as Messiah in verses 10-11.  God does so to produce good, and to give it in increasing measure (v.12).  Jesus Christ our Righteousness goes before us and his footsteps make the way (v.13).

Take time for more reflection of your own on what is written here in this psalm and let your heart be drawn ever closer to Christ your Savior and God his (our) Heavenly Father.
