"I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations....Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and Amen."

~ Psalm 89:1,52

Ethan the Ezrahite here writes a “maskil”, a contemplative instructive psalm of wisdom.  There is far too much to this psalm for me to adequately address within the intention of this blog.  I will instead exhort you to spend much time in this psalm on your own, exploring its truth and beauty, its hope and honesty.

Twin pillars of this psalm are “steadfast love” and “faithfulness”.  Take time to mark or note how often these words (of variants of) are used in this psalm.  Take note as well how many first-person statements of action that God makes (“I have made…”, “I have sworn…”, “I will establish…”) and dwell on all that they mean.  There is also significant Messianic content within this psalm.  Truths relating to God’s one continuous promise plan for an eternal kingdom of redeemed people by means of his Son and Savior Jesus Christ, all to his glory and praise.  Take these promptings, or others, and create your own reflection on this psalm.  God’s Word is rich and inexhaustible!
