"Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,"
~ Psalm 114:7
This psalm speaks of the awesome power and majesty (v.8) of the presence of God (v.7). It describes in a unique way how God’s holiness is creation’s ailment (v.5-6). For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We are all men and women of unclean lips. Woe are we! We are undone before him (Isaiah 6:1-5). All of creation is now tainted by sin and groans for redemption and renewal (Romans 8:19-23)
Yet, because of Christ, God dwells with us (John 1:14) and in us by his Spirit (Romans 8:9). And we will live with him forever (John 14:2; Psalm 23:6). We are his temple (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). We are his people (1 Peter 2:9-10). We are under his dominion (Daniel 7:14; Ps. 145:13)). God has complete sovereign rule over all his creation (1 Chronicles 29:11-12). He uses his power and majesty to protect, provide for, love and care for all of his creation (Job 12:7-10; Nehemiah 9:6).
Not only is God’s holiness creation’s ailment, it is its only HOPE!
