"Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us,"

~ Psalm 123:3a

This psalm is four short verses but is a psalm of honest and rightful perspective.  In this psalm, its author rightly acknowledges God in his heavenly sovereign place of authority (v.1).  This psalm humbly places oneself before God, taking ownership of our dependence on him (v.2).  It demonstrates patience in affliction; maintaining faithfulness with endurance (v.2-3).  The psalmist rightly identifies and hates the sinful reality of the world around for those who are God’s people (v.4).   Yet in all of this, the psalm as a whole shows a surrendering of ultimate vindication to God himself; not a seeking of justice now by ones own hand.

Entrust yourself to the God of all mercy as a bondservant to his master.  Be humble and patient, lifting your heart and your eyes to the Sovereign God of Heaven.
