"For there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore."
~ Psalm 133:3b
Verse one is a verse I have encouraged my middle two sons to memorize, meditate on and live out. (Hasn't always gone so well...) But this is a verse that any one of us (myself included), as brothers and sisters in Christ, should memorize, meditate on and live out. The LORD God has commanded blessing, both for our spiritual and physical needs, as we live in the light of his truth. It truly is good and pleasant.
If you do not have an adequate understanding of the Old Testament Levitical priesthood or of Middle Eastern geography and climate, you may not easily relate to the descriptors in verses 2-3 of this psalm or have a full appreciation of its intended meaning.
The latter half of verse 3, perhaps, is easier to relate to and fully appreciate, “The LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.” Simple; but profound and impactful.
Who is it? It is “The LORD”. What has he done? He has “commanded”. What has he commanded? He has commanded “the blessing”...not a blessing or some blessing or a good blessing or a really great blessing but THE blessing. And what is that blessing? It is “life forevermore”! How is it that we have life forevermore? It is through Jesus Christ! Amen and Amen!!
