"Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD, give praise, O servants of the LORD, who stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God! Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant!"

~ Psalm 135:1-3

This psalm opens and closes with the same refrain of, “Praise the LORD!”  In between are a variety of descriptions for why I am to praise the LORD.  In summary, I should do so because of his very nature, his words, his works, his promises and his faithfulness.

Specifically, I am to praise him because…he has chosen me and made me his servants (v.1,4,14)…his name is pleasant and endures forever (v.1,3,13)…in his nature he is good, great, exalted, renowned, compassionate (v.3,5,13,14)…his words are electing, creative and authoritative (v.4,6-8)…his works are supreme, mighty, autonomous, irresistible, vindictive, compassionate, just, beneficent (v.5-12,14)…his promises are sufficient and sure (v.2,4,12-13,21).

If I am one who fears the LORD, I am to bless the LORD. (v.20b)
