"Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God!"

~ Psalm 48:1a

Jesus came preaching the Kingdom of God (Matthew 4:23; Mark 1:14-15; Luke 4:43; John 3:3) and trained and commissioned his disciples to preach the Kingdom of God (Matthew 10:5-7; Luke 9:1-2, 10:1-9; Acts 28:30-31).  Every Kingdom has a capital city.  In this case it is Zion.  The prophets spoke of God’s Kingdom and of Zion, the city of God.  Jerusalem has been representative of the city of God…Mount Zion as it is called here in this psalm (v.2).  And in Revelation (ch.21) we learn of the New Jerusalem that will come down from heaven.

We can be absolutely certain that God will establish his Kingdom and his city forever (v.8; Revelation 11:15).  If you are a believer in Jesus Christ for salvation, you are a citizen of this Kingdom (Colossians 1:13) and will be a resident of the city of God for all eternity (Matthew 25:34).

God has made himself known as a fortress (v.3) and we must tell of him to the next generation (v.13).  Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised (v.1).
