"I will look with favor on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the way that is blameless shall minister to me."

~ Psalm 101:6

This psalm is a royal psalm of King David.  Royal psalms deal with the spiritual role of king as God’s anointed/chosen one, especially in relation to the worship of the LORD.  These psalms emphasize God’s promises to David for an eternal kingdom.  All of these promises point to the Messiah, who we now know is Jesus of Nazareth.  This, and other royal psalms, could be seen as a sort of pledge, oath or manifesto.

The things stated here in Psalm 101 were practically unattainable by David himself, so it is safe to say that the psalm refers ultimately and fully to Jesus, our perfect Savior and Judge. This psalm first speaks of perfect righteousness. In verses 2 and 4 it talks of blamelessness, integrity of heart and knowing nothing of evil.

Second, this psalm speaks of living at peace. Verse 6 talks of “looking”, “dwelling”, “walking” and “ministering” in favor with the faithful.

Third, David here speaks of vanquishing all of God’s enemies. Verse 8 talks of accomplishing the “cutting off all the evildoers”.

Clearly, King David could not accomplish these things fully and completely; he was a fallen sinful human being like you and I and every man to ever live.  And so, though not fully attainable by us in this life either, we no less commit to, strive for and long for these things IN CHRIST…to be righteous and blameless, to know nothing of evil, to live at peace and to await the day of Christ’s return when he will vanquish all of God’s enemies.
