"Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth."
~ Psalm 124:8
How many times in your life has it been true that you could say, “Had it not been for the LORD…”? In all honesty, there is not a moment of life we could have ‘had it not been for the LORD’. He is the very Creator of life (Colossians 1:16). He is the Sustainer of life (Colossians 1:17). He is the Author and Finisher of our faith (new life) (Hebrews 12:2).
To try to live separate from the LORD is a fool’s errand. It is the chasing of a mirage. The seeking of the end of a rainbow. We may convince ourselves we can (or have) or that we will be perfectly fine in doing so. This psalm slaps us upside the head with Truth. Apart from the good hand of God (v.2), we would be swallowed alive (v.3), we would be swept away (v.4), we would be overwhelmed and drowned (v.5), we would be prey to our enemies (v.6-7).
“Blessed be the LORD” (v.6), in whose name we find our ever-present, all-sufficient, undeserved help (v.8). Let us not forget. Let us never cease to say. Let us always be thankful to our God who “made heaven and earth” (v.8), who made us and has placed his love upon us and called us unto himself for salvation through his Son Jesus Christ (Jude 1). Remember that it is the LORD who is on your side (v.2).
“May mercy, peace and love be multiplied to you” (Jude 2)
