"The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation"

~ Psalm 18:46

Who is God to you? Is he your LORD?...your strength?...your rock?...fortress?...deliverer?... refuge?...shield?...horn of salvation?...stronghold? (v.1-2)…your support? (v.18)…your light? (v.28)…your trainer? (v.34)…your equipper? (v.39)…your deliverer? (v.43)

How do you view God? Is he worthy to be praised? (v.3)…is he merciful?...blameless? (v.25)…pure? (v.26)…perfect and true? (v.30)…gentle? (v.35)…blessed and exalted? (v.46)

How to you relate to God? Do you love him? (v.1)…Do you call upon him? (v.3)...Do you cry to him for help? (v.6)…Do you lean on him for support? (v.18)…Do you keep his ways? (v.21)…Do you praise him among the nations and sing to his name? (v.49)

Who are you to God? Are you his delight? (v.19)…one he will reward? (v.24)…merciful and blameless? (v.25)…purified or crooked? (v.26)…humble or haughty? (v.27)…his trainee? (v.34)…one of his offspring forever? (v.50)

There is much to reflect on in this psalm!  Verses 7-15 includes much to be thought through carefully, deeply and humbly.  In verses 20-24 David seems to boast in a form of self-righteousness, but then we see in verse 32, he gives proper credit to God for his blamelessness.  Verses 37-48 seem very foreign to us with their militant language.  This psalm is relevant to us but is more closely connected to David himself and most closely prophetically connected to Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the sum and substance of who God is to you; he is our view of God; he is how we relate to God; he is God’s view of us.  Blessed be the rock and God of our salvation Jesus Christ!
