"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer."
~ Psalm 19:14
How is it that we are to wonder at our God?
It is through his work and his word. These are the means by which we know our God. These are the means by which he has chosen to reveal himself. These are the means that are sufficient for us to know God. These are the means in which we are to be content and satisfied. These are the means in which we are to pursue our God. These are the means that we are to be directing others to. These are the means which we are to guard and protect thereby guarding and protecting our hearts.
His work and his word are for the display of his glory. This glory is perfect (v.7), sure (v.7), right (v.8), pure (v.8), clean (v.9), true (v.9), desirable (v.10) and sweet (v.10). They reveal knowledge (v.2), providing both protection and reward (v.11).
One of the common threads that can be traced through all of Scripture is that of God’s work and his word. The Psalms are highly centralized on this theme. Jesus and his gospel is the epitome of God’s work and word. It is by him that we ultimately are warned and have reward (v.11). Through Jesus we can discern our errors and be declared innocent (v.12). Jesus is how we are kept back from ‘high-handed’ sins, freed from the dominion of sin and made blameless (v.13). Jesus is to be the meditation of our heart, he is our acceptance before the Father, he is our LORD and Rock and Redeemer (v.14).
I exhort you to read and reread this psalm without the routine familiarity it may have. I pray that you will be revived in soul (v.7), made wise (v.7), rejoice (v.8), be enlightened (v.8) and be warned (v.11).
Oh, how great is our God!
