"Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. Our God is a God of salvation, and to GOD, the Lord, belong deliverances from death."
~ Psalm 68:19-20
In 1 Peter 4:7, the Apostle Peter exhorts believers to be “self-controlled and sober-minded” in light of the “end of all things [being] at hand”.
Well, you could look no further than Ps. 68 to find more than enough reasons to rest confidently in God about your present and future circumstances. David here, too, asserts that the “end” is certain (v.1-3). There are certain things about the end, completely in God’s control. David’s certainty rests in God’s character (v.5), work (v.6-10,28) and word (v.11). And the certain response is that of praise and exultation to the LORD (v.4,26,32,34-35).
God is, has, and will be at work in his creation. God’s enemies will be scattered and perish (v.1-2). God will save and deliver those who are his possession (v.20). He bears us up (v.19), protecting the weak and pursuing the outcast (v.5-6). He gives his word (v.11,33), establishing and removing kings (v.14,21,30). He provides for all (v.9-10), makes enemies his friends (v.18,29,31-32), and blesses his people (v.11-13,19,34-35). He has ascended on high (v.18), makes the last to be first (v.27), draws all nations to himself (v.18,29,31-32) and displays his power in the skies (v.34).
Look with me to his Word and see our Awesome and Holy God!
